Framed by the ubiquitous palm trees of Los Angeles and the snow-capped San Gabriel mountains, stands Biddy Mason. Raised a slave in the south, she not only won her freedom in California, but amassed a multimillion dollar real estate empire. She never forgot where she came from though, tirelessly devoting time and money to the poor, hungry and homeless. Biddy founded the First African Methodist Episcopal Church, now the oldest church founded by African-Americans in LA.
