For Day 7 of Side by Side, I drew the 10 of Wands. OVERBURDENED was one of the key themes that drove the design of this card. On the right, the Rider Waite Smith deck shows a man gamely carrying 10 wands toward a distant city. Is he struggling, or is he managing his burden? On the left, we have a skier carrying an enormous pack through rugged Sierra Nevada mountains. His face is serene and confident, despite the size and weight of his burden and his isolated location. His name was John “Snowshoe” Thompson, a Norwegian immigrant who carried mail and supplies to remote communities.
