For Day 11 of Side by Side, I drew the 2 of Swords. We selected Tien Fuh Wu and Donaldina Cameron to represent the key themes of Crossroads and a Decision in the Balance. Behind them, a window opens onto a storm-tossed sea, representing the difficult decisions they made; the full moon represents the fears they faced; and their swords, crossed at the tips, represent their enduring alliance. Together, with eyes wide open, they rescued over 2,000 Chinese women and girls from predatory servitude.
